The Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) at Holy Family School

This program has evolved from a traditional ESL program into a comprehensive initiative that empowers parents and promotes personal growth. Initially focused on teaching English, PEP has become more parent and goal-centered, asking, ‘What do you want for yourself and your family, and how can we help you get there?”

Under Maria Jimena Martinez’s leadership, PEP is a supportive and safe space where parents develop English skills and confidence. Parents build community while setting goals, such as obtaining a GED, enrolling in college classes, or advancing their careers.

Our volunteer tutors, some of whom are retired teachers, are the heart of our program! They work one-on-one with parents, offering personalized support tailored to their individual goals. These partnerships often last for years, providing parents with a trusted ally in their journey. By prioritizing learning, parents make a weekly investment in their own growth, unlocking opportunities for their families’ futures and mobility.

Stories like Maria Lopez, who became a citizen and now works towards earning her GED to set an example for her children, show the program’s impact.

As PEP evolves, it remains dedicated to lifelong learning and personal growth, ensuring all parents feel supported and empowered. Together, we build a brighter future, one goal at a time.
