Project Description
FOOD & FRIENDSHIP
Thanks to our partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, the Food Pantry is a highly impactful take-home food program for families facing food insecurity on the Peninsula.
Every weekday morning, rain or shine, people from Redwood City and nearby communities on the Peninsula gather on the patio of St. Francis Center. Dozens of dedicated volunteers carefully pack two grocery bags containing all the primary food groups for each person to take home to their family.
For fiscal year 2023/2024, the Food Pantry served nearly 40,000 people with 311,928 pounds of food worth $498,622!
Food Pantry use has increased by 15-20% in the past six months. Factors such as high food and gas prices, a housing shortage, and the scaling back or elimination of pandemic financial support programs are just some of the issues fueling this increase.
This summer, the Food Pantry underwent a complete renovation. These recent enhancements are paramount as we embark on Hunger Action Month. The expanded capacity and efficiency of the space will enable us to better support those facing food insecurity.
Rice and Beans are in Short Supply!
The Food Pantry needs donations of rice and beans (dried black or pinto). Due to supply and demand issues, the Food Bank has cut our allocation by 50%. Donations may be dropped off at the St. Francis Center Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Pull into the driveway and call (650) 365-7829. We will open the driveway gates so you can bring donations to the food pantry’s back door. The gates open outward, so please don’t pull up too close.
GIVE THANKSGIVING
Join us in spreading the warmth of gratitude this Thanksgiving by donating whole frozen turkeys to the St. Francis Center.
