A PLACE OF MIRACLES
Since 1986, we have been a “place of miracles,” supporting hardworking families struggling to afford basic needs despite low-paying jobs. We provide food, clothing, and essential services designed to help families move from dependency to interdependency, always guided by our motto: “compassion, not judgment.”
A YEAR OF IMPACT & GROWTH
In 2024, our collective efforts impacted lives through various programs and initiatives:
886 individuals were housed in 268 homes, including 31 new families. In addition, we invested $742,659 in housing rehabilitation projects. 31,479 bags of food, totaling 377,748 pounds, were distributed, marking a 25% increase in food visits compared to 2023. 1,685 households, reaching 4,707 members in our database, were served, with an added 10% of new families joining our program.
150 volunteers from SFC/HFS contributed 12,205 hours, and 50 volunteers from Siena Youth Center dedicated 2,919 hours to various community efforts. Holy Family School served 28 students over 180 school days. Student STAR test scores improved, with our 2nd and 8th graders making significant progress in strengthening the core subjects of math, science, and reading. Siena Youth Center served 270 elementary, middle, and high school students, providing 1,167 hours of programming and critical mental health services.
THE HANDS BEHIND THE HOPE

We are thrilled to recognize our outstanding volunteer, Don Shoecraft.
Don, a dedicated St. Francis Center volunteer, recently built a free community lending library in honor of fellow volunteer Susan Santz. In addition to his carpentry, he tutors ESL for mothers at Holy Family School and serves in the Food Pantry. A former award-winning journalist and author of four commissioned histories, including Wings of the Phoenix, Don brings nearly 50 years of experience in writing and communications. His long-standing service on local boards and leadership roles, such as past president of the San Mateo Rotary Club, reflect his deep commitment to the Peninsula community and the mission of the Center.
